There is a brand new insurance policy available in India – and it is one that is unique in the marketplace.

Aviva Life Insurance has launched what it describes as the “first ever heart insurance for couples in India”.

Known as Aviva Heart Care, the product allows for spouses to be covered on the same policy for a nominal extra premium. It also comes with policy options such as the chance to restore policy benefits once the basic sum assured is exhausted; as well as cover against 19 mild-severe cardiovascular conditions.

According to a report at Awaz-E-Dost, Indians are renowned for suffering from heart ailments because of several factors, including an unhealthy diet and genetics. As such it is considered the cardio vascular disease capital of the world prompting Aviva to create a comprehensive heart care plan to fill the gaps in the market.

“At Aviva, we are committed to helping people lead a healthy life,” said Trevor Bull, managing director and CEO of Aviva Life Insurance. “As part of our “Good Thinking” philosophy, we conceptualized “Aviva Heart Care” to help people achieve their healthy heart goals & also encourage them to make health a priority for themselves and their spouses.”

“The incidence of cardio-vascular disease in India has gone up by 30% in people below the age group of 40 years,” added Dr Naresh Trehan. “Today it is among the fastest growing chronic illnesses in India, growing rapidly at 9.2% annually. We often see that people are not sufficiently covered financially when they come for treatment.”
