Top global insurer Chubb has promoted regional executive Tai-Kuan Ly as the new country president for general insurance in Indonesia.

As the new president director, Ly will lead the general insurance operations in the Southeast Asian country, reporting to Chubb Asia Pacific regional president Juan Luis Ortega.

Ly will be replacing Edward Ler, the incumbent president director who will return to Singapore after a two-year stint in Indonesia.

Ler will continue to serve as Chubb’s Regional Head of Personal Lines for Asia Pacific, overseeing the company's motor, residential, high net worth and specialty personal lines products.

Ortega expects Ly to sustain the double-digit growth achieved by the personal line portfolio under Ler’s leadership.

“I'm confident that Tai-Kuan, having worked closely with our regional team, will continue the growth momentum for Indonesia,” Ortega said.

“Tai-Kuan brings together expertise in operational and product management, underwriting and customer relationship development, all vital skills to achieve our ambition as a leading insurer of choice for customers and distribution partners,” he added.

Ly, who has been in the industry for over 25 years, joined Chubb in 2013 as vice president and global motor and residential product manager for Asia Pacific.

In that role, Ly served as an actuarial advisor to the Indonesian team, establishing the risk appetite and product pricing frameworks that spurred the local auto growth strategy.

In 2014, Ly became vice president and deputy regional head of personal business insurance, managing and developing the auto, residential and small commercial insurance business and strategy in the Asia Pacific region.

Before joining Chubb, Ly worked at Samsung Fire and Marine Insurance Company and Allstate Insurance Company in Illinois. He also served at AIG as a Hong Kong-based Southeast Asia regional actuary, personal lines.
