Crawford & Company has expanded the leadership role of Zakky Cheng, who is currently serving as the managing director for Taiwan, to also cover the operations for Crawford Hong Kong.

Cheng's new responsibilities come after a significant period of collaboration and familiarisation with the Hong Kong team and the local insurance sector over the last quarter. He will be balancing his duties between Taiwan and Hong Kong, dedicating alternate fortnights to each location.

In his extended role, Cheng (pictured) is set to focus on advancing Crawford Hong Kong's proficiency in handling significant and intricate loss cases.

“Crawford Hong Kong is in excellent shape with some top adjusting talent. I will be ensuring we build upon that strong foundation and continue diversifying our specialty expertise,” he said. “The complexity and sometimes the size of a particular claim, totally dictates the need for specialist knowledge and specific skills. I recognise that in these types of loss scenarios, it's critical that the person engaged on the claim has a deep understanding of the industry in which the loss occurred.

“We know that the winning combination for handling claims is the ability to combine sector-specific knowledge with insurance market expertise. Our business is a people business; we are people helping people. I am therefore totally focused on ensuring Crawford is known for the best technical proficiency in the market.”

Crawford's team in Hong Kong, which includes over 40 experts, is known for its specialist knowledge in areas such as property, casualty, construction, and several other sectors.

Cheng, who has been an integral part of Crawford Taiwan for a decade and served four years as its managing director, brings extensive experience to this dual role. His career, spanning 21 years, includes significant tenure in loss adjusting and experience as an underwriter in engineering risks.

Andrew Bart, CEO of international operations at Crawford, commended the cohesive leadership across the company's Asian presence.

“One of the things that always impresses me about our Asia leadership team is that all the country leads communicate well with each other, they have conversations with the aim of learning from each other, they share ideas, and they do this because they are committed to putting the client at the heart of everything they do while taking the Crawford customer experience to the next level,” he said.

Last month, Crawford bolstered its operations in Malaysia and the Middle East with significant appointments.
