Public insurer Korea Trade Insurance (KSure) is supporting South Korean expansion into the renewable energy market with an investment in Samsung C&T’s biomass power generation project in the United Kingdom.

KSure recently announced that it will provide $200 million in financing for the 299 megawatt combined heat and power plant, which is said to be the largest of its kind in the world.

The global engineering firm Samsung C&T formed a consortium to undertake the project worth $866 million. Samsung has a 25% stake in the venture.

KSure said it supports the plant so that: “South Korean companies can expand into the environment-friendly, renewable energy market.”
