Global insurance market Lloyd’s has appointed Eric Gao as head of Greater China Region and Tom Haddrill as general representative for Hong Kong.

Gao was appointed chairman and CEO of Lloyd’s Insurance Company (China) Ltd since 2008, overseeing a period of impressive growth. He will head the Greater China region, a newly expanded unit which also includes Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan, in addition to mainland China.

Haddrill has been Lloyd’s interim country manager in Hong Kong since December 2015 and was previously based in London as part of the Lloyd’s Global Markets and International Regulatory Affairs teams. Before joining Lloyd’s, he was part of the public affairs team of Insurance Europe in Brussels, dealing with regulatory changes related to the European (re)insurance industry. He will report to Gao, and take charge of market development and coordinating with market practitioners and regulators in Hong Kong.

Gao commented on Haddrill and his new responsibilities, saying: "I am delighted with Tom’s appointment as General Representative for Hong Kong and look forward to working with him to leverage Lloyd’s knowledge and relationships across Greater China to support Lloyd’s businesses across the region.”
