Global reinsurance firm Swiss Re Corporate Solutions has opened its new office in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, as its operations began on March 1.

The new office operates under a Labuan Financial Services Authority reinsurance licence, serving medium- and large-sized Malaysian businesses through various broking partners and intermediaries.

On Tuesday, Swiss Re Asia-Pacific CEO Fred Kleiterp said that Malaysia is a key market for the company, and a local presence would greatly help the reinsurance group in terms of collaboration.

The Malaysia office will be led by Juerg Stoll, who was previously Swiss Re Japan’s country head. He will report to Jonathan Rake, Swiss Re Southeast Asia head.

The opening of the Malaysia office brings Swiss Re’s Asia-Pacific offices to 11, located in six different countries: Australia, China, Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia, and Singapore.
