Middle East-based reinsurer Qatar Reinsurance Company Ltd (Qatar Re) has appointed Manik Sethi as chief executive of its Singapore branch. Sethi will succeed Micky Lee, who has left the company to pursue other opportunities.

With more than 11 years of re/insurance underwriting under his belt, Sethi has worked for several global insurance names such as Zurich and RSA. He joined Qatar Re in 2016 as regional head of facultative marine insurance, and he was later appointed global head of the team.

“Singapore is recognised as a highly sophisticated and innovative marketplace for reinsurance,” commented Gunther Saacke, CEO of Qatar Re. “As such, the Lion State plays an important role for Qatar Re as a regional hub. Under Manik’s leadership, we are keen to see our Singapore branch develop into a centre of excellence for marine business.”

Sethi is an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute, specialising in facultative and treaty business. He holds a Master’s degree in commerce and finance from Mumbai University.

Qatar Re’s presence in Southeast Asia began in 2015 when it opened its representative office in Singapore. It is now a full-fledged branch operation, reflecting its commitment to the Singaporean market and continued diversification of its global risks portfolio.
