Insurance and care provider icare has teamed up with Swisse Wellness in a bid to educate workers on workplace safety.

Through icare’s NSW Paralympian Speakers Program, Swisse hosted icare representative and Paralympic powerlifting champion Kahi Puru at its Botany branch to talk about the life-altering impact of workplace accidents and drive home the importance of accident and injury prevention to workers.

“I’ve experienced first-hand how workplace injury can have a devastating effect on the individual and their loved ones, as well as on the workplace. By sharing my experience, I can make people more safety-aware. Being able to prevent one workplace injury is worth its weight in gold,” Puru said.

George Livery, Swisse Wellness director, corporate & strategy, said collaborating with icare allowed them to deliver the message on workplace safety in a creative way.

“We’re honoured to host Kahi today as a workplace safety advocate and to learn from his story on how unsafe work practices can be life-changing for workers, their family and the community and commend icare on their Paralympian Speakers Program initiative,” Livery said.

Jason McLaughlin, icare GM loss prevention & pricing, workers’ insurance, said icare’s Paralympian Speakers Program was just one way that the insurer promotes workplace health and safety.

“There is no better investment than arming your staff with the tools and training they need to operate a safer work environment every day,” McLaughlin said. “Our goal is to empower businesses to reduce workplace incidents by putting accident-prevention first, reduce loss of productivity and help businesses improve their return to work outcomes.

“Ultimately this will help NSW employers lower their workers’ insurance claims and premiums over time and allow them to reinvest those savings in growing and innovating in their business.”
