The biggest job moves from the Australian insurance industry, including a new GM for a national broking giant, an underwriter appointing a former broker and ACE Insurance adding to its management team.

Scott McCarthy has been appointed general manager of Ausure Insurance Brokers following the merger of AFM Insurance Brokers into Ausure Insurance Brokers.

McCarthy has been the CEO of AFM Insurance Brokers since its inception 16 years ago. Prior to this, he worked in broking at Willis and commercial underwriting at FAI.

Ausure and AFM have been working together internally for the past 12 months, since Ausure purchased AFM in October 2011. All AFM client portfolios, staff and Authorised Representatives have been integrated into Ausure.

“Whilst I don't view it as the end of AFM, I guess in some ways it is, as the name will disappear so it is the end of an era,” said McCarthy. “I've been involved with Ausure for over a year now and am genuinely excited about the future of the business.  They are a great group of people and at every turn I find another success story within the group. The future for AFM staff and reps is full of opportunities."
Troy Brown remains managing director of Ausure.

Underwriter Protecsure has recruited Crystal Chown as national sales manager.

Chown has 20 years of experience in the industry and has recently worked for Freeman McMurrick where she specialised in schemes as national development manager, and Aon Australia where she also had the role of national development manager.

She will be based in Melbourne and will manage Protecsure’s three BDMs and will also be responsible for providing service to key brokers directly.

Protecsure’s Tony Mitchell, said: “We are delighted to have added a person of Crystal’s calibre to our team. We are planning additional products to add to our equipment and liability insurance products underwritten by Chubb Insurance and WR Berkley respectively. Crystal’s track record in business development and broker service showed us that she is a great fit for this role.”

ACE Insurance has appointed Michael Peacock as the energy and power manager for its ANZ operations.

Peacock’s appointment follows the relocation of Michael Frazer to Singapore where he will assume the position of manager, energy and engineering for Asia Pacific.

ACE Insurance’s country president, ANZ, Giles Ward said: “We are very pleased that a seasoned insurance professional of Michael’s calibre will be joining ACE. With his appointment, we have strengthened our multi-functional team who will further develop our current strong position in Power, Energy & Construction.”

David Coombes formerly of Technical Assessing, has joined the Cerno Expertise Liability team in Melbourne as a specialist liability adjuster.

Coombes has a litigation background, gaining loss adjusting experience in the investigation, management and adjustment of a range of liability claims since becoming a specialist liability adjuster in 2003.
