QBE has announced a new group chief financial officer for its global business.

Michael Ford will take on the role as Pat Regan relinquishes the post to focus on his permanent role as CEO of the firm’s Australia and New Zealand operations.

Regan will also step down from the board of QBE.

Ford, currently deputy chief financial officer for Commonwealth Bank, will join the major insurer in September 2017 and will be based at the company’s head office in Sydney.

“Michael brings to QBE more than 25 years’ experience in finance,” John Neal, group CEO of QBE, said of the appointment.

In his current role, Ford is responsible for all aspects of Commonwealth’s group finance function and leads a team of more than 500 people.

Ford joined Commonwealth in 2005 and has held a number of senior finance roles with the firm. Prior to this, he held senior positions at MLC, NAB and Lendlease Group.
