Insurer’s executive GM of SME will depart in July to pursue charity and community work in South East Asia and to travel with his young family.
Shaun Feely described the move as a “big call”. “I’ve given myself up to 18 months to travel and give something back,” he said. “It’s an adventure I can share with my wife and two children prior to them starting secondary school."
Feely has already been an active fundraiser. In November last year he ran the New York marathon to raise funds for CAMFED an organisation that works to break the cycle of poverty and disease through educating and investing in impoverished parts of the world.
“I love working in the insurance industry because it is fundamentally about looking after the communities in which we live," said Feely. "And when you combine these values with the great examples I see across our industry within various charities I decided it was time to get out there and get more actively involved.”
“This is very much in line with our global ethos and something Shaun had been working toward over the last 12 months,” said Shane Doyle, CEO of General Insurance.
“Zurich globally has a strong commitment to supporting the communities where it operates with the Z Zurich Foundation recently committing $100m to key social challenges.”
Doyle said Zurich encourage its employees to stay connected to the community issues they feel deeply about. “As an organisation we are proud that we have people so committed that they’ll put their career on hold like this to pursue what matters to them,” added Doyle.
“Given the right opportunity, the Zurich door will always be open for Shaun wherever in the world that may be,” said Johnny Chen, Zurich’s CEO Asia Pacific, General Insurance.
“In the meantime we support his decision and commend him on his commitment. Shaun and I have agreed to stay connected during his endeavours as we both hope there is an opportunity for him to work back in the Zurich global network in the not too distant future,” added Chen.
