Zurich has announced the appointment of a new head of SME for its operations in Australia.

Theo Pitsikas has been appointed to the role and joins the international insurer from Suncorp, where he spent close to a decade in the SME portfolio area.

Prior to his time with Suncorp, Pitsikas also held various roles at Allianz Australia.

Raelene Seales, chief operating officer for Zurich Australia, said that the addition of Pitsikas further strengthens the firm in a key broker market.

“Combined with our particularly strong understanding of various business requirements, we are committed to growing the packages offering in Australia,” Seales said. “Mr Pitsikas’ extensive SME experience and leadership abilities will significantly enhance our underwriting and product offering to brokers and customers.”

Steven Ord, chief distribution officer of the firm, said that the experience Pitsikas brings to Zurich will boost the SME offering of the business as his appointment is a “key part” of Zurich’s investment in packages.
