Although the recent job posting issued by Uber hints at the transportation network company’s (TNC) relaunching in Vancouver, it poses a major question: has the company finally sorted its insurance and regulation issues?

BC’s taxi laws are some of the most stringent in North America. Operators need to be licensed by two levels of government, must undergo semi-annual vehicle inspections, and should have proper commercial insurance, among other things.

Uber had operated in Vancouver for several months back in 2012, but closed down after it was found that it did not follow provincial regulations.

Since then, the company has made efforts to reopen its business in the area. The government, however, wants to thoroughly reassess the TNC before it permits Uber to operate once more.

Minister Peter Fassbender said Tuesday that there would be news regarding Uber’s pending relaunch before elections on May.

“I think we have a responsibility to let everyone know what our intentions are, and we will plan on doing that,” he told CTV News.

Now, an Uber job posting has specifically called for experts in the Western Canada area.

“We are looking to expand our driver support team in Western Canada,” the ad read. “We need sharp people to support and educate our Uber partners as they grow their business of being an Uber driver.”
