Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) is to introduce inland and ocean marine insurance in Canada, and has named a new leader in the field, it was announced yesterday.

Gord Rider will take up the role of senior marine underwriter, joining the firm from Chubb Insurance Company of Canada where he most recently held the same title.

He will be based at the company’s Canadian hub in Toronto, BHSI said in a release.

“With Gord at the helm, BHSI in Canada has launched ocean marine products - including ocean cargo, stock throughput and project cargo insurance - as well as a full line of inland marine products,” said John Evans, vice president of marine, BHSI, who welcomed Rider to the team.

Rider was a marine underwriter for Chubb before moving up to his most recent role as senior marine underwriter. Prior to that, he was a marine underwriter for the firm Coast Underwriters, having gained a bachelor of commerce degree from Dalhousie University in Halifax.
