CNA has announced the appointment of Scott Weber as executive vice-president and general counsel. Weber succeeds Jon Kantor, who recently announced his retirement after serving for almost 23 years.

In this role, Weber “will serve as a principal counsel to the CEO, senior management team and board of directors.” A release said that he will lead the company’s law department, which is responsible for CNA’s legal affairs, compliance needs, regulatory and government affairs, corporate affairs, securities and litigation, as well as offering legal support for the company’s business operations.

Weber will report to chairman and CEO Dino E. Robusto.

“Scott has made strong connections throughout CNA since joining earlier this year to lead the claim litigation counsel team. This, combined with his impressive history of high-level legal, business and government experience, makes him well qualified for this important position,” said Robusto.

Weber has practiced law for more than two decades. He has held partner roles at two international law firms – Latham & Watkins and Patton Boggs. He has also served as senior counselor to the Secretary of the US Department of Homeland Security.

In addition, he has served in a leadership role at big data predictive analytics company Opera Solutions.

Prior to joining CNA in February, Weber was most recently managing director for Stroz Friedberg.

He has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and English from Rutgers University, and has earned his JD from Boston College Law School.
