Ontario home and auto insurance company The Commonwell Mutual Insurance Group announced yesterday that it had completed its community donations to registered charitable organizations in 2016.

In total, the insurer donated $534,069.02, which was distributed to charities across Ontario through the company’s Create A Ripple Effect (CARE) program, which “helps to fund vital charitable organizations in the Ontario communities that [the insurer] serves.”

The following are some of the insurer’s most notable donations:

  • Commonwell’s largest donation amount in 2016 was $27,473, which was given to Victim Services of Ontario to help the organization develop GPS trackers for high-risk victims of abuse.
  • Almonte General Hospital was the recipient of $25,000 from the insurer last year, which helped fund the healthcare center’s two new ultrasound machines.
  • Grandview Children’s Centre received $25,000 from Commonwell to fund a new building to accommodate the institution’s growing patient base.
  • Another $20,500 was given to Charles H. Best Diabetes Centre to fund 240 glucagon emergency kits and 100 education sessions to explain to school staff how to recognize the symptoms of hypoglycemia in children.
  • Commonwell donated $15,000 to The Hub for Beyond 21 to support tutorials for adults with developmental disabilities to learn fundamental home skills.

The C.A.R.E. program generates many success stories that we’re extremely proud of,” said The Commonwell Mutual Insurance Group president and CEO Tim Shauf. “We’re excited to continue the C.A.R.E. legacy in 2017 and would issue a challenge to all other Ontario businesses to step up and find meaningful ways to support our local communities.”

Since The Commonwell’s founding in 2014, its CARE program has donated more than $1.7 million to a variety of local organizations.
