Due to a severe snow storm that struck Nova Scotia on Monday, a local insurer announced that it is closing shop until the weather clears up.

Guarantee Insurance announced that its Halifax office closed following a blizzard event.

“Due to a snow storm, the Halifax office will be closed today, February 13,” the company said in a statement on its website.

Nova Scotia is on the receiving end of a snow storm, with winds reaching speeds of 110km/h. Schools, businesses, offices, transit services and several healthcare services have shut down in the wake of the weather event. Parts of the province, Environment Canada warned, might experience as much as 30 to 50cm of snow by Tuesday morning.

Coastal portions of the province could experience hurricane force wind gusts of up to 120km/h, said CBC meteorologist Brennan Allen.

"Travelling will be dangerous and likely impossible by car in the afternoon to evening hours," he warned residents of the province.
