Rogers Insurance announced yesterday that its account executive Bryce Kumka was given the Chamber of the Year award for his role as Fort McMurray’s Chamber President.

Kumka was recognized during the Alberta Chambers of Commerce Annual General Meeting on May 25th-27th in Leduc. He was honored alongside Alexis Foster, executive director of the Fort McMurray Chamber.

The award was given to Kumka for the Fort McMurray Chamber of Commerce’s “pivotal role” in helping businesses re-enter Fort McMurray after the area had been evacuated following the wildfires in 2016. The Chamber created a Business Recovery Task Force, submitted a grant proposal for relief funding to the Alberta provincial government, sat on a Business Resource Centre stakeholder committee, and kept evacuees updated through social media.

“The Fort McMurray Chamber was incredibly busy in 2016, actively fostering the growth of the business community after so much devastation,” said Kumka. “We are so grateful for our work to be recognized by this award, and we look forward to the continued economic development in the area.”

Kumka has over 25 years of experience in the insurance industry. Under his direction, the chamber acted as a hub of information for businesses during the evacuation period, as well as throughout the re-entry and rebuilding of the Fort McMurray area.
