Three years after an unfortunate accident that led to the demise of a worker, a trucking company has been charged $70,000.

In 2014, in the village of Mankota, Saskatchewan, a 43-year-old man working for Schmidt Trucking was killed after the packer he was operating rolled over him.

The company pleaded guilty in Swift Current Provincial Court on Tuesday to failing to ensure that the operator of the packer used a seatbelt, which resulted in his death.

Schmidt Trucking, based in Kelvington, was fined $50,000, with an additional $20,000 surcharge.

At the time of the accident, RCMP did not disclose the identity of the worker, but did confirm that the man is from Kelvington.
