General Motors (GM) has announced that it is recalling almost 800,000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 pickup trucks worldwide.

According to documents made public by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the trucks are at risk of losing power steering.

The documents explained that the 2014 model year trucks could suffer a temporary loss of electric power steering, especially during low-speed turning maneuvers.

Reuters reported that the recall includes approximately 690,000 vehicles in the US, 80,000 in Canada, and about 25,000 in other markets. GM dealers will re-flash the vehicles’ software to solve the issue.

Tom Wilkinson, a spokesperson for GM, did not have any details on whether any collisions or injuries were connected to the detected defect.

GM notably told regulators that before the 2015 model year, it made a number of changes to address possible sources of momentary low voltage conditions that could disable power steering.

The auto manufacturer has not revealed when dealers will begin repairing vehicles.
