RSA Group is expanding its try before you buy mobile telematics app outside of the UK, allowing those consumers who are on the fence on UBI to try out the new technology.

The Floow has been appointed by RSA’s Scandinavia based Codan Insurance to deliver the region’s first telematics smartphone application in Norway – and is part of an initiative to spread the application throughout the globe where RSA has a presence.

“We’ve had a lot of success with telematics in the U.K. and are now seeing demand for similar services in other countries RSA operates in,” said Paul Middle, head of telematics partnering at RSA. “The insight we’ve gained has enabled us to create a product that we believe is well suited to the dynamics of the Norwegian market and we’re looking forward to helping drivers become safer and benefit from lower insurance premiums.”

The Codan Forsikring application, launched earlier this week, monitors driving behaviour using key variables such as anticipation, duration, speed and mobile use.

The technology, which provides data regarding driver behaviour over a 300 kilometre trial, allows customers a unique insight in to their driving behaviour and how this can be changed, ultimately leading to a discounted insurance premiums.

“We are delighted to be the chosen telematics and analytics experts to support with the launch of this exciting and unique initiative in Norway – allowing road users the opportunity to see first-hand the economic, environmental and safety benefits that come from a better understanding of driver behaviour,” said Aldo Montefore, CEO and Co-founder of The Floow. “During the 300 kilometre trial, customers will be in a position to understand the full capability of the application – including potential reductions on their insurance premiums.”

This data, which is captured and analyzed by The Floow, provides users with an end score and educational feedback, which is then used by Codan to reward safer driving with discounts of up to 20 per cent.

This is the first time that the RSA group has offered a trial of their Usage-Based-Insurance outside of the U.K., and the first try-before-you-buy smartphone application to launch in Norway.

“Throughout the trial we are also welcoming feedback from customers which enables our expert team to continue to develop and improve the usability of the technology,” said Montefore.
