A Langley, BC-based wholesale machinery company has been sentenced for violating engine emission regulations and asked to pay a hefty fine for its trouble.

LR Projects Inc. pleaded guilty at Vancouver Provincial Court for breaching the Off-Road Compression-Ignition Engine Emission Regulations part of the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999 (CEPA).

According to a release by Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), the company was fined $20,000, which will go to the Environmental Damages Fund.

ECCC enforcement officers inspected engines imported by LR Projects from China back in September 2013. During the assessment, officers examined a diesel generator and water pump to check if they were compliant with emission standards. The tests, however, found that both engines failed for nitrogen oxide (NOx) and non-methane hydrocarbon (NMHC) emissions.

A release noted that, due to the conviction, the company’s name was added to the Environmental Offender’s Registry.
