In a bid to reduce the impact of water damage, the Guarantee Company of North America has introduced a water mitigation program for Guarantee Gold clients and brokers in Canada. The Gold Watermark program offers an automatic water shut-off device known as the AquaTrip and access to Guarantee’s extensive referral network of plumbers.

The AquaTrip automatically shuts down the water supply in case it detects a leak, a frozen pipe, failed appliance, or any other compromise in the water supply’s integrity. The device does not need central monitoring and is available with complimentary installation service to customers with replacement costs over C$3m. Below that, it is available to all Gold Watermark customers at a reduced price.

According to insurer data, burst pipes and failed appliances make up majority of water damage claims in both frequency and severity. With an AquaTrip, customers can rest assured that their homes are protected from severe water damage and it also enables them to enjoy certain policy discounts.

Marilyn Horrick, national vice president of Guarantee Gold stressed the importance of taking pre-emptive action against damage caused by unwanted water in the home. “Only a small portion of homeowners take pro-active steps to install water mitigation devices for reasons of awareness, affordability and access … [Guarantee] Gold’s intent is now on taking a step in a more proactive direction” she said.
