A fire broke out at the Asia Buffet restaurant at Circle Drive and Quebec Avenue in Saskatoon last week, causing considerable damage to the business

In a statement yesterday, the Saskatoon Fire Department said that the event would cost $1 million in damages. Investigators believe it was caused by an accident.

Firefighters responded to the fire just after 5am CST on October 06. Responders said that there had been a number of calls relating to smoke and fire emerging from the roof of the restaurant.

The fire was so strong that a ladder crew had to spray the building from above while firefighters broke down the front doors to enter. The fire appeared to have started in the kitchen, and then spread to the ceiling and roof.

It took firefighters about an hour to get to the source of the blaze. Smoke generated from the flames was so heavy that police closed off a block of Quebec Avenue until the situation could be controlled.

CBC reported that, fortunately, there were no injuries related to the fire.
