CBL Corporation managing director Peter Harris has been named EY entrepreneur of the year for 2017.

Harris, also the founder of CBL, will represent New Zealand at a global competition in Monaco next year, a report from the NZ Herald said.

The report said Harris will compete for the title with winners from more than 50 countries.

Chair of the EY judging panel and co-founder of James Pascoe Group Anne Norman described Harris as a “true master entrepreneur.”

“Within the corporate environment, Peter has been extremely innovative,” Norman told NZ Herald. “We are particularly impressed with his social initiatives, such as the help he has given to under-privileged people in places like Mexico and Peru.”

The NZ Herald said CBL started with two workers and one office. Harris led the company over the years to become an international specialist insurer and reinsurer with almost 550 employees across 25 countries.
