QBE’s new global CEO has said that he is keen to further develop the firm’s commitment to diversity, equality and inclusion across the global business.

Pat Regan, who will take on the group CEO role when John Neal leaves the business on January 01, 2018, said that he will look to further the firm’s aims on a cultural front. Speaking at the Dive In Festival, Regan said that for a global business like QBE it is important to support and serve a diverse group both within the business and externally as consumers.

“That is one of the many reasons we are committed to creating and maintaining a team and culture that is rich and diverse and practices inclusion in the way we do things internally but also in the delivery of our products and services,” Regan told attendees.

“That is something I personally think about, not only in our ANZO business but also as I take on my new role here in group.”

Regan noted that internally, QBE has increased its senior female representation from 29% to 32% and remains on track for its medium term target of 35%.

However, Regan was quick to note that more could still be done.

“Notwithstanding all of that, I think it is fair to say that as an industry insurance hasn’t always been at the forefront of diversity and inclusion and there is more we can really do,” Regan continued.

“There is still a lot for us all to learn. I’m committed for QBE to do that locally here in Australia and I also want to make this a centrepiece of what we are doing abroad. I know a number of my colleagues agree with me on that.”
