Major car insurer Admiral is again ditching the broker channel as it plans to start selling van insurance directly to UK customers.

The company has announced that it will underwrite van insurance directly in the UK, rather than through its broker business, Able Insurance, and its panel of insurers.

Able, which is more commonly known as Gladiator, has traded as a commercial vehicle intermediary for almost 19 years. It currently has more than 170,000 van customers.

According to Admiral, the decision to go direct in van insurance will have no impact on present policies. Over the next 12 months, existing customers will be invited, at renewal, to transfer on to the new Admiral direct van insurance product.

The change is seen to allow Admiral to directly offer motor, home and van policies in the UK.

“Gladiator has received strong support from various business partners since its inception, and is very grateful for this support and hopes there will be opportunities to co-operate in the future on other initiatives,” Admiral said.
