Lloyd’s insurer Aegis London has appointed David Lineham as class underwriter for political and financial risks at Syndicate 1225.

The company said Lineham is already able to write business. He brings a notable track record in leading political risk placements, joining from XL Catlin where he was senior underwriter of the political risk and trade credit team for four years.

“His expertise, technical ability and market know-how will, I have no doubt, fit perfectly into the Aegis family,” said Alex Powell, Aegis Syndicate 1225 active underwriter.

The company said Lineham’s appointment signals the continuing expansion of the diversified platform of Syndicate 1225.

“I would hope that Aegis Syndicate 1225’s consistently high levels of operating performance, stable ownership and solid capital base mean it will be regarded by clients and brokers alike as a natural partner going forward,” Lineham said.

He noted that recent events in the worlds of trade, finance and politics confirm the growing relevance and reach of the political and financial risks business line.

“Aegis’ investment in the class is recognition of this development and reflects its wider goal of offering a broad portfolio of products to its client-base,” Lineham added.

Earlier in his career, Lineham served as senior vice president of Marsh’s political risk and structured credit practice. He was also a financial and political risk underwriter at Aspen Insurance UK.
