It took Yorkshire Building Society two years to find a life and critical illness insurance provider for its customers… but now it has found American International Group (AIG).

Announcing the deal, the mutual said it chose AIG Life Limited after searching for a flexible insurer that would facilitate the purchase of “easy-to-understand insurance in a way and at a time best suited” to Yorkshire Building Society customers. The products – life insurance and ‘critical 3 with life’ – are available at the Yorkshire’s branches, by phone, and online.

The partnership promises no more than 15 minutes to complete a new application, with a majority of customers able to buy cover with no medical evidence required. In addition, policyholders acquiring a house will be provided home purchase insurance at no cost, as well as a mortgage guarantee.

Meanwhile the life and critical illness products also come with free access to global second opinion medical service Best Doctors.

“We have been very impressed by AIG Life’s flexibility and the way they have worked with us to create an accessible service that we feel will be well-suited to our customers,” commented Russ Hargreaves, senior relationship manager at Yorkshire Building Society. “It was important for us to get the right insurance products at an affordable price available in ways that our customers want.

“We believe working with AIG Life reflects that and we hope it will enable customers to enjoy life knowing we have options available to give them the financial protection they wish.”
