International brokerage giant Arthur J. Gallagher (AJG) has secured a deal to exclusively provide risk management and insurance broking services to the University of Glasgow.

The three-year partnership will see AJG deliver local client support and claims handling from its team based on Blythswood Street, Glasgow, combined with the specialist resources and expertise of its UK public sector and education practice.

Alex Sawers, client servicing director for AJG in Glasgow, said that the deal with the University of Glasgow will show the broker’s national and international sector expertise and capabilities.

“This new partnership aptly demonstrates the depth and breadth of resources we can offer all our customers as a community-based broker,” Sawers said.

Through its partnership with AJG, the University of Glasgow can quickly access the broker’s risk sector specialists, such as its clinical trials and crisis management teams, according to Tim Devine, managing director of the company’s UK public sector and education practice.

“The ability to offer genuinely local support and claims handling capabilities were key factors in our search for a long-term insurance partner, as was the need to work with a higher education specialist. Gallagher offered us this and more,” said Ian Thomson, insurance and risk manager at the University of Glasgow.

Founded in 1451, the University of Glasgow is the fourth oldest university in the English-speaking world. It is also the only UK university to be rated “5 stars plus” overall in the QS 2015 World University Rankings.
