Specialist broker Alesco Risk Management Services has appointed industry veteran Simon Clarkson to strengthen its energy division.

Joining as an executive partner, Clarkson will focus on identifying new business opportunities across the upstream and downstream energy markets, predominantly in the US upstream market.

Clarkson will take up his new role on December 1 and will report to Jonathan Lyne, chairman of the energy division.

Lyne described Clarkson as a “well-known market figure.”

“We are investing in our talent and Simon is a great example of the calibre of people joining us,” Lyne said. “His wealth of global energy market experience complements and strengthens the team we have at Alesco.”

Bringing more than 30 years of industry experience, Clarkson moves from Miller where he was head of energy broking and responsible for managing primarily US upstream, downstream and production business lines.

Clarkson was also a director at Lloyd and Partners and specialised in the generation and broking of US upstream business.

Clarkson is joining Alesco amid challenging conditions in both the energy and insurance markets, according to Lyne.

“But we believe that there are still significant growth opportunities for brokers that have the bench strength and agility to capitalise on them,” he said.
