Aspen Insurance aims to improve its international platform and product capabilities with the appointments of two industry veterans as new global executives.

The insurer has named Mike Toppi as global head of surety risk and Paul Sanders as global head of credit and political risk. Both will report to David Cohen, Aspen president and chief underwriting officer.

“These internal appointments reflect the expertise and talent we have within Aspen Insurance as we continue to globalise our product offerings,” Cohen said.

He added that Toppi and Sanders, along with Aspen’s other global heads, will bring further benefits to the insurer’s brokers and clients through its international platforms.

Toppi, who has over 25 years of experience in the surety business, previously served as Aspen’s executive vice president and chief surety lines underwriter. He started his career at Aetna and later worked at the Hartford Insurance Group and Travelers.

Sander joined Aspen in September 2014 as head of credit and political risk. He recently worked as vice president and regional manager at Zurich, where he managed the London market portfolio of political risk and credit business.
