Eighty staff of Towergate’s former small business unit will make the switch to Autonet Insurance Services as the company continues its expansion by opening a new office in central Manchester.

The digitally focused broker announced earlier today that its new site will support its personal lines team, based in its head office in Stoke-on-Trent, while also working on the development of its business insurance proposition. The former Towergate staff will be at the heart of this push after Autonet was acquired by Towergate owner HPS Investment Partners last year.

Making the announcement in a Press release, Ian Donaldson, the company’s managing director, stated that the firm is well positioned for expansion having placed more than £125 million in gross written premiums during 2016.

“Manchester is the insurance powerhouse of the north and we are delighted to be opening our first office in the city,” he said. “We have been fortunate to hire 80 high calibre insurance professionals who will be of real assistance to the 650 of us here in Stoke.

“With the backing from our new shareholders, HPS and Madison Dearborn Partners, we are perfectly positioned to step up the expansion of our existing business and seize on opportunities to grow in new areas.”

Late last year we revealed plans for the firm to introduce around 260 new jobs.
