In what is a busy day for the insurance sector in the UK with the MGAA annual conference and Aviva’s Capital Markets Day, two other significant insurers have made their own headlines with the announcement of two notable new appointments from rival companies.

The first is AXA Insurance, which has appointed Kim Pearce to a newly created role – that of claims customer services director.

The move is part of AXA’s ongoing claims transformation programme and follows on from Martin Ashfield’s appointment to the role of claims technical director in February this year. Pearce will take up the role on August 15 having previously worked at Allianz where she served as head of organisational management.

The claims transformational programme is designed to offer greater digitisation to the claims process with AXA Insurance claims director Chris Voller excited by the new appointment.

“Kim’s wealth of experience in customer service, senior operational management and transformation projects makes her ideally suited for this role,” he said. “She will add significantly to the overall capability of the claims senior management team.”

Meanwhile, Towergate Insurance has announced the appointment of Brian Hardwick in the role of chief risk officer – he had previously served as chief risk officer at Chubb from 2007 onwards.

During his time in this role, Brian led all risk management and compliance across 11 countries in Europe. He was also a board member of Chubb’s Lloyds MGA and had been responsible for the Solvency II implementation programme throughout the business.

Commenting on this appointment today, David Ross, CEO of Towergate said “Brian is a great hire for us, ideally suited to overseeing the continuing progress in evolving our risk function and embedding our control framework. A much admired and reputable operator in his field, we are delighted to welcome him to Towergate and to support his commercial, pragmatic risk management and judgement.”
