Health insurance giant Bupa has acquired leading UK dentistry chain Oasis Dental Care from European private equity group Bridgepoint.

Bupa purchased the British business for £835 million, a move that will make the insurer a major player in the £7.1 billion dental market in the UK.

“There’s strong customer demand for high-quality, value-for-money dental services that are convenient and easy to use,” said Bupa UK managing director David Hynam.

“Bupa and Oasis have a shared commitment to putting customers first, and we look forward to working together and welcoming the Oasis team into Bupa,” he added.

Oasis CEO Justin Ash said the company’s growth is accelerating while enthusiasm is building among dentists and customers.

“As part of the Bupa family, we can really develop further and continue to transform the UK dentistry market,” Ash said.

The second largest dental provider in the UK, Oasis has 380 practices and over 1,800 dentists serving two million active patients in both the private and public sectors.

The company has 420 clinics and its latest annual revenue amounted to £277 million.
