Chubb has appointed Adrian Matthews, one of its top executives in North America, as the new COO for Continental Europe.

Matthews will take up the role before the end of the first quarter. He will be responsible for the performance and development of Chubb’s property and casualty product lines, along with the sales and distribution function across the continent.

Matthews is currently executive vice president and zonal leader major accounts for the company’s Midwest, Canada and northeast regions in North America. He will now be based in Paris in his new role, reporting to Continental Europe division president Jeff Moghrabi.

“In a mature insurance market such as Continental Europe, Adrian’s leadership, experience and proven track record in one of our busiest US regions will be a great asset,” Moghrabi said.

“I welcome him to Continental Europe and Paris, and look forward to working together to further strengthen our product propositions and distribution strategy,” added Moghrabi, who called Matthews a “great addition” to the team.

Matthews will replace Steve Reiss, who recently returned to the US to lead Chubb’s North American real estate and hospitality industry practice.

Before assuming his current role, Matthews served as COO for Chubb’s Midwest region from 2012 to 2015. Earlier in his 32-year insurance career, he also held underwriting positions at ACE, Royal Insurance and Hartford Insurance.
