Chubb has appointed its cyber risk manager (first party) for Continental Europe to a related leadership role in Africa.

The insurer has announced that Gilbert Flepp will be the new head of construction, power generation and cyber risk for Africa. He will be responsible for the operation and growth of Chubb’s insurance portfolios in the said developing areas of risk in the continent.

In his new role, Flepp will also provide technical underwriting support and guidance to the teams in Russia and Turkey. He will keep working with Chubb's Continental Europe team, reflecting the diverse distribution channels and geographies through which the African business is written by Chubb.

Flepp will continue to be based in Paris and will report to Chubb Eurasia and Africa regional president Giles Ward and Chubb Continental Europe COO Steve Reiss.

Flepp’s new appointment comes as Chubb continues to build its insurance capabilities in the Eurasia and Africa region.

"Construction and power generation is an increasingly important sector for the African continent, while our research shows that technology risk is the number one emerging risk for African risk managers,” Ward said.

“Gilbert, with his wealth of technical and underwriting experience, will play a key role in developing our risk solutions and further strengthening our capabilities within our Eurasia & Africa region in general,” he added.

Flepp has over 30 years of experience in the insurance industry, previously serving as Chubb’s cyber risks manager (first party) and technical lines manager for Continental Europe.

He also worked for nearly six years within the construction sector division of the French insurance broker Diot and for five years as a construction project engineer

Flepp joined the Chubb predecessor company Cigna in 1989.
