It was back in June 2017 that CNA Hardy revealed its plans to join a cluster of insurers setting up a post-Brexit base in Luxembourg. Now that new European operation has a leader.

That man is Stuart Middleton, who has been appointed as CEO of CNA’s Luxembourg subsidiary, subject to regulatory approval. In his new position, Middleton will report to CEO Dave Brosnan and will look at ways to transform the manner in which CNA does business across Europe.

According to Brosnan, Middleton’s depth of underwriting experience will be crucial in establishing a clear customer focused service that also leverages technology and drives efficiencies.

“Stuart has significant experience and a proven track record of building profitable businesses and highly effective teams, having held numerous leadership roles including chief underwriting officer (CUO), Europe at Hiscox and most recently, CUO and joint managing director of EXIN’s Wholesale Division, based in Barcelona,” he said. “We are delighted that we can leverage both his underwriting expertise as well as his strong broker relationships to build out our proposition and capabilities across the continent in this manner”.

Middleton will be based in Luxembourg and will soon begin recruiting a local management team.
