Health insurance provider Simplyhealth has announced its plan to close its office in Canal Wharf, Leeds, endangering the jobs of its 64 employees.

The company has informed the staff about the impending office shutdown, although its exact date has not been set, the Yorkshire Evening Post reported.

Simplyhealth said it is still early to say how many employees will be laid off, the report added, but various options will be explored for the affected staff, including homeworking and the relocation to a different site.

“We are working with our people on what this means for them and will make a further announcement in due course,” the Yorkshire Evening Post quoted an unnamed Simplyhealth spokesperson as saying.

The spokesperson claimed that the Leeds office closure is part of a “transformation programme that will enable the group to meet customers’ changing healthcare needs over the long term.”

Refocusing of the business on the provision of daily healthcare needs is among the changes in the pipeline, according to the report.
