They may not be Smashey and Nicey, but they definitely do a lot of work for charity – so it’s no surprise to see that hard work were rewarded as Ecclesiastical Insurance Group scooped the Insurance Company of the Year prize.

The firm was honoured as part of the Better Society Awards – following on from its milestone success of donating £50 million to good causes over three years.

The Gloucester-based company insures around 40,000 UK charities and was recently named among the top five corporate donors in the 2016-17 UK Guide to Company Giving.

“These awards are a celebration of the commitment businesses are showing to supporting charities and making a difference to society and communities,” said David Britton, charity director for Ecclesiastical. “It is an outstanding achievement for us to pick up this prize again and recognises the fact that the charity sector sees us as much more than just an insurance company.”

The company has also received high praise for the commitment of its employees to its charitable efforts. More than 60% gave their time to volunteering – with more than 1,000 volunteering hours devoted to Nelson Trust, the firm’s charity partner, alone.
