Global wholesale insurance and reinsurance broker Ed is expanding its professional & executive risks business and has appointed five new officers.

The group composed of Paul Richards (managing director), James Baird (director), Neal Hughes (divisional director), Rupert Alabaster (divisional director), and James Faith (producer / broker) will work with the broker’s established professional risk offering led by director Mark Lowndes.

Ed’s new managing director of the professional & executive risk team, who has more than three decades of insurance experience, said, “We are combining the broad and deep expertise of the expanded team to deliver personalised client service within Ed’s unique business model.”

He added that Ed will grow its cyber capabilities as well as develop partnerships with other independent retail brokers and Brokerslink members.

An expert in financial and professional risk insurance, Richards was a partner at JLT and senior partner at Glencairn. He led the financial institutions team at Willis Towers Watson’s FINEX division and was also an executive director of the financial lines division.

Meanwhile, Baird has more than 20 years of experience and also came from Willis Towers Watson where he was a FINEX executive director. Hughes, on the other hand, has two decades of market experience, almost half of which was spent in the financial institutions sector. Also a former Willis Towers Watson executive, he served as a divisional director of the FINEX division.

Alabaster, the only one not from Willis Towers Watson, was group director, professional and financial services at BMS. Faith, meanwhile, served as a divisional director focusing on servicing financial institutions and professional clients in the FINEX division at Willis Towers Watson.

Ed Specialty chief executive Chris Bonard said the new appointments exemplify the scale of the firm’s ambitions.
