The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has warned against an insurance firm in Yorkshire that has been operating without the regulator’s authorisation.

The insurance firm, Halifax and Penn, says on its website that it is based at the Northbank Business Centre. It claims to be formed from the merger of two “former great companies,” Halifax Insurance Company and Pennine Insurance Company.

Halifax and Penn says it offers “a wide range of solutions” including life, travel, car and home insurance.

“We offer a wide range of insurance and reinsurance as well as placing. We aim to provide our clients with cover that is both comprehensive and competitive,” the insurer says on its website.

However, the FCA warned that the insurer may be a potential scammer. The industry watchdog said the company has been providing financial services or products without regulatory approval, preying on individuals in the UK.

“This firm is not authorised by us and is targeting people in the UK,” the FCA said. “Based upon information we hold, we believe it is carrying on regulated activities which require authorisation.”

The regulator also said: “Almost all firms and individuals offering, promoting or selling financial services or products in the UK have to be authorised by us.”

“However, some firms act without our authorisation and some knowingly run investment scams,” the FCA added.
