McCafferty will steer AXA Insurance’s four strategic business units – commercial intermediary, personal intermediary and corporate partnerships, personal direct and retail partnerships and AXA business insurance.

McCafferty said AXA is “working hard” to embrace disruptors and secure its future place in the changing insurance sector.

“We can’t afford to stand still and must keep innovating and developing our proposition to ensure that we not only continue to be successful but lead the way in our markets,” said the new CEO.

Boasting more than 30 years of industry experience, McCafferty played an important role in the launch of the Flood Re scheme after holding several high-profile positions in the sector. He previously served as Paymentshield commercial director, Willis UK president, finance director at RSA’s commercial division and head of Aviva Corporate Partnerships.

Commenting on McCafferty’s arrival, AXA Group CEO Amanda Blanc said the prized recruit is the “ideal person to take AXA Insurance to the next level.”

“His excellent contribution to the Flood Re scheme has shown that he understands the evolving demands of consumers in the sector – which will be vital in his new role,” Blanc said.

“I have every confidence that he will be a huge success here,” she added.
