Global reinsurer Gen Re has entered into a strategic collaboration with health technology company PAI Health.

PAI Health, formerly Mio Global, is a developer of technologies related to Personal Activity Intelligence (PAI). PAI is a “motivational heart-rate based activity metric” used to help individuals reduce their cardiovascular disease risks. The company develops technology that harnesses data from PAI, offering insurers advanced behavioural insights, as well as the measurement of individual and population risk and health trends.

As part of the collaboration, PAI Health will work with Gen Re to develop insurance solutions, particularly for the reinsurer’s life and health clients in the global market.

“It is significant to be working with Gen Re, a global leader in the insurance industry,” said PAI Health CEO Peter Taylor. “Our combined expertise is a powerful collaboration to realise the full potential of PAI, improving consumers’ health and reducing healthcare and insurance costs on a global scale.”

“Collaborations offer a way for insurers to develop digital solutions that will provide policyholders with added value,” added Gen Re international life/health research and development chief underwriter Ross Campbell. “We see potential for PAI in risk selection and promoting improved health among insurance customers. Working with PAI underlines Gen Re’s commitment to innovation.”
