Specialist global insurer Hiscox has promoted one of its long-time executives to the role of chief underwriting officer for its European operations.

The company has given the position to Justin Bowen, who recently served as deputy chief underwriting officer for Hiscox UK and Ireland.

“Our European business has a strong underwriting track record and a highly talented team which I am delighted and privileged to be joining,” Bowen said. “I look forward to contributing to its continued success and growth.”

Bowen will continue to be based in London, but he will regularly be present across the insurer’s European offices, reporting to Hiscox managing director Stéphane Flaquet.

“His deep understanding of our business, wealth of underwriting experience and strong connections with our UK operation will be very valuable to Europe,” Flaquet said of Bowen.

The newly promoted executive has worked at Hiscox since 2000 and held several roles within its UK business.

Bowen previously led the London professional indemnity team and the underwriting management team. He also established a specialist trading risks team in 2010.
