Major insurer Legal & General (L&G) has expanded its position in the home insurance market on the back of forming a new strategic partnership with the Skipton Building Society.

The partnership is expected to enable the two organisations to capitalise on each other’s strengths and yesterday (February 01) it kicked off with the launch of new products into the home market.

One is called “Protect,” a product that provides cover for loss or damage from events including fire, storm, flood, escape of water and theft. The other is called “Protect Plus,” a policy that includes home emergency cover and some higher cover limits such as alternative accommodation should a claimant’s home become uninhabitable.

“We are delighted to see this new home insurance partnership go live,” said L&G general insurance managing director Mark Holweger.

“After several months of strategic planning and preparation, we are confident that the partnership will be a great success,” he added. “We are hopeful that the digital first, direct to consumer approach will be seen as a pioneering step in the building society sector.”

Skipton Building Society’s head of products Kris Brewster said partnering with L&G is a “fantastic prospect.”

“People should never underestimate the importance of protecting their home, and the peace of mind good quality cover provides,” Brewster said. “We are very excited to have Legal & General on board as our new home insurance provider.”
