“Stuart brings a powerful combination of excellent technical underwriting skills, significant market-facing experience and strong leadership,” Telford said.

“Having written a successful casualty book, he is uniquely placed to drive our business forward, growing a market-leading position for Liberty,” he added.

Telford said LSM’s casualty book is an “integral” part of the insurer’s plans to grow and develop its commercial division.

In his previous role, Sutherland led a team of 120 people at AIG. A 30-year veteran in the London insurance market, he also previously worked for XL Catlin as UK regional casualty manager.
