After fighting cancer it has now been reported that managing director of Canada Life Insurance Ian McMullan died on Friday, July 8.

Speaking to the Financial Times, Canada Life’s UK chief executive Doug Brown said the company will be much poorer without him.

“He was an outstanding leader and his high standards mean both the business and his colleagues are better for having known him,” said Brown. “A real people person, he will be deeply missed by all those he worked with, from his colleagues to advisers and suppliers.”

McMullan began working at Canada Life Group in 1998. He was appointed to the role of managing director in 2006 and saw the group division grow to become the largest provider of group insurance in the UK.

Tim Stove has been acting managing director during McMullan’s battle with cancer, and will now continue in that role.
