Specialist insurer Markel International has struck an agreement with an energy insurance specialist for master underwriting in relation to upstream oil and gas risks.

JH Blades & Co., which operates both a broker and MGA, will join forces with the firm to offer specialist wordings specifically written for the industry.

Having been in business for more than 60 years, Blades has built strong relationships in the market with product strengths in third party liability, control of well and property damage. It has a retail base of over 200 agents and is considered among the market leaders in developing industry-wide forms and wordings.

“We’ve known and worked with the Blades team for over 30 years and are really pleased that we’ll be extending our relationship with them through this agreement,” commented Paul Jenks, managing director of Markel International’s marine, energy and property division.

Richard Martin, President of J. H. Blades & Co., Inc., added: “The new partnership fulfils a strategic objective to support our growth and expansion plans in the future. We are delighted to be broadening our relationship with the Markel team.”
