Specialist insurance firm Markel UK has relocated its Birmingham staff to a new and larger office to support business expansion.

Markel, which has been operating in Birmingham for 17 years, is moving the local staff to Cathedral Place from a neighbouring building, The Business Desk reported.

The company has occupied the entire third floor of the building – which measures 2,035 square feet – on a new lease, the report said.

Nine members of the staff have moved to the bigger office, which allows additional space for more hires expected in the coming months, the report added.

“We were keen to occupy the right space at the heart of Birmingham’s central business district and were not willing to compromise on quality as we grow in profile and number in the city,” Andy Partington, UK sales director at Markel, was quoted as saying in the report.

Charles Warrack of Johnson Fellows, who advised Markel on the office move, said that Cathedral Place “fitted the bill perfectly” for the insurer, ahead of other shortlisted options.

The building will also “allow them to focus on their core business in a comfortable and smart environment,” The Business Desk quoted Warrack as saying.
